I am a friend of Julie’s. While I did not know Michael, I wanted to extend your family my deepest condolences. In looking at the photos you’ve shared, I can see the love and fullness that Michael must have felt from you all.
I am sending you all comfort during this time. Please hold each other close as I’m sure he would’ve wanted. Life is so very brief and it is with family and friends that we make it precious. I hope that you can lift each other up as best you can through this time.
All My Best,
Candace

I’m a friend of Kelly’s since 7th grade. I think the one thing that will always come to mind when I think of Micheal is how much he loved being a Bampa. When I brought my youngest son to visit in 2019 I remember having a conversation with him about Brock and Kylee (Morgan wasn’t born yet, obviously), and how much he loved them and how proud he was to be able to share his love of music and movies with them. I really only had the opportunity to get to know him as an adult, and even then it was for a brief amount of time on my visits. But I always appreciated how he was quick to laugh or make a sarcastic joke and he never ever let me pay for my food 🤣. Kelly absolutely gets that from him.
To Julie, Jessie, Kelly, Graham and the rest of the family please know that our thoughts and love are with you. I hope you continue to hold onto those warm memories you have, and those that people will share here.
We love you all. ❤️

We met Mike through Julie and instantly just knew he was quite a character. Mike was so kind, funny, loved talking about music, always a good listener and told some amazing stories. You always looked forward to seeing him or hearing from him and even though we’ve been moved apart from the Short Family for several years, they’ve always been with us. I love seeing pictures of the fun times hanging out at Julie and Mike’s at their Vancouver home in the summer. Always had their door open for others. Mike always with a smile on his face.
Our hearts broke hearing the news. Our hearts also reached for Julie and the kids. So much love for you all. Mike will certainly be missed but the imprint he left on our spirits isn’t going anywhere. Prayers and love and light to all of Mike’s family and dear friends.

I remember spending a few summers with the Short Family in Penn Yan, NY. Lots of good memories. Spent most of my time with Michael and Neil exploring, wandering around town, visiting my grandparents when they still lived in Penn Yan, etc. And, there was lots of fun and catching up to do when everyone visited us in Niagara Falls. 1646 was often bursting at the seams. My Mom and Aunt Fran tended to keep us up to date on what everyone was doing, so I always felt like I knew what Michael and the rest of the Short family members were up to. I’ve had the opportunity to touch base from time to time. Although all-to-often physically distant, I always felt a sense of closeness that has never faded. Michael will be missed. My condolences to family and friends.

I was one of Kelly’s friends in middle school. I always thought that Kelly had one of the “cool” dads and when I would come and visit her house I would be fascinated with all of the equipment he had.

The world’s not going to be the same without my brother Michael. He was intelligent, creative, inventive and adventurous. He went after what he wanted and he reached for the stars.
It’s still not real, and yet it is reality. I do not like it. I will miss my brother’s laugh and all the puns that he made endlessly. I miss his smile and the silly name he used to call me. I have faith in God, and I’m sure he wanted Mke for something really important. I love and miss my brother Michael.
